Final Dress Notes

All-
  • Do NOT talk in the wings, ESPECIALLY when you are standing next to someone who is wearing a mic
  • Dial up the energy
  • The audience loved Prince Ali! Make sure you are on the beat!!
  • Everyone is a bit nervous and a bit emotional. Remember that we are an ensemble, be supportive of each other and be patient with one another.
  • clap for each prince when they get to Jasmine
  • React when Genie arrives in the throne room!
  • React when Jafar gets sick and disappears!!
  • Those with lines- pick up your cues, don't leave space between lines. The lines themselves need to be clearer. THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE SAYING. NEED to communicate to the other person or people.
Mic wearers-
  • Do NOT talk in the wings, ESPECIALLY when you are wearing a mic
  • If you are wearing a mic and whisper, we will hear you
  • Do NOT touch your mic you think you are helping but the opposite is true. Wanna know why? Ask the sound guys when they are fitting your mic.
  • Do some of you remember last year in Lion King when Stefano's mic didn't work during his first scene? He realized it, and projected even LOUDER and the entire audience heard him. Without a mic! If your mic has trouble- do that!!
Garvey-
Great job! Stay on beat in friend like me. Can you hear the music?
Remind me to talk to you about your entrance and how to make those lights look even cooler.

Al & Jas-
You get better evrytime. Think HIGH ENERGY. Anahit and I talked earlier. Stefano- Al is full of energy, a love for life.
Look at the lyrics for the finale song

Maya-
Good fix on Da Du Ran Ran introduction!
👓"there's Razoul, Jafar's right hand man" make sure your names are correct and make sure we can understand the entire line. It's funny, we want to get the joke

Jafar- GREAT ENERGY AT THE END OF THE SHOW! Bring that to the top of the show as well.

Iago-
did you fill before Why Me??? I didn't get a chance to hear. 😕

Shopaholics-
after One Jump don't use the down left set piece, stay to the cart and the center set piece. Jasmine needs to sit on the set piece

Soti-
I want to make an adjustment to the moment Al comes down the stairs after a whole new world - remind me!!
How did the carpet flight right after Friend like Me go?

RAZ-
I think you have 2 entrances where you need to come in sooner? remind me and we'll look at it tomorrow.

GUARDS-
right before the Why Me reprise starts, you all look like you're crossing Left because the director or choreographer told you to. Bleh. Justify the move. imagine that you are all going over there to get away from Jafar so that you can whisper about the lamp. Juicy gossip!

RAZ & AVERY-
At the end of Why Me reprise, Jafar sings "Why Me!" then laughs, laugh evilly with him. Mackenzie this will allow for a funny fast change from laughing to serious listening. Also laugh at the end of Prince Ali reprise 2

Notes from Tuesday's Rehearsal

I'm old. I've been doing theater since I was Antonia's age. One of the best moments I've ever experienced was near the end of the run thru tonight, when you were all so engaged in the wedding and eager to help keep the scene stay on track. 💗
Now, having said that, please be aware that you can't just go bellowing out everyone's lines all the time. Stepping in is actually something that happens rarely. (I think some people were trying to help out Stefano at one point, and he didn't need help.) Be sure the need is real, be sure you respond in a way that is true to your character.
Big Atta Boys for Garvey and Nora who stepped up and helped out appropriately and IN CHARACTER.

Notes

From Mrs. Acitelli-
Jafar and Iago if there is a pause before your music starts.  Fill it.

Narrators -   Mics are still on when you are  exiting the stage.  The house could hear you.

Genie  ( maybe Robbie's guy too). Wait for music cue before you pop out of the floor.

From Mrs. Gilbert-
All
  • Do NOT NOT NOT correct or direct other actors (this is different than helping, as your character, someone who is in real need)
  • Do not tell the Hoover crew what to do
  • Do NOT talk in the wings, ESPECIALLY when you are standing next to someone who is wearing a mic
  • Never Had A Friend like Me- vocalize on entrance (all groups), vocalize on Antonia under the legs (It's a BIG musical, right??)
  • Ensemble, good job being ready for entrances
Mic wearers
  • Do NOT talk in the wings, ESPECIALLY when you are wearing a mic
  • If you are wearing a mic and whisper, we will hear you
  • Do NOT touch your mic (especially Stefano and Atom) you think you are helping but the opposite is true. Wanna know why? Ask the sound guys when they are fitting your mic.
  • Rumor has it that some actors were "muting" their mic packs- BIG BIG NO NO! Not your job! Your job is to project nice and loudly when you have a line or a song and to keep you mouth zipped at all other times. Let Robbie do his job.
Narrators
  • Don't enter too soon at the top of the show. We shouldn't see you till you sing. one or two at a time. look at your blocking notes
  • great voices
  • lots of nice stage pictures
  • stay open!
Emma
  • p. 22 Narrator Ani says "Jafar...is it true the local crime rate has plummeted?" That's when you pickpocket Jafar
  • when you pick pocket Max make it REALLY obvious. long, slow pull
  • liked your background business
Maya
  • Da Du Ran Ran introduction, you can't run back across the stage in front of him while he's making his entrance. Either stay to stage right or wait til his entrance is made. Running doesn't make you invisible.😉
  • don't RUN over to the agrabah set after Arabian Nights pt 7 you take a lot of focus when you do. we think this part is going to be about your character,
  • "there's Razoul, Jafar's right hand man" make sure your names are correct and make sure we can understand the entire line. It's funny, we want to get the joke
Derek, Alby & Alec
  • STAY OPEN!! if you are on stage left, pull your left shoulder and foot upstage, if you are on stage right, pull your right shoulder and foot upstage.
  • Nice "fighting" and "kicking"!!
Jaz & Al
  • "Gotta do is JUUUUUUUUUUUUMP" move a little more slowly down the stairs. don't turn and put on disguises til the word JUMP is totally over. then, stand up and put on disguises, they are talking about you, it's ok if we see you. Have fun!! you are having a great time escaping together. Smile!
  • Don't go up and take off your disguises!! You are hiding!! Jaz, you take your disguise off when you say "By order of the princess"
  • whole new world is going to be SPECTACULAR. Lovely singing. Look at each other. Look at the view going by.
  • "good night sweet prince" finish the entire line before you turn to exit
Jafar & Iago
  • Fill before Why Me. We've talked about that
  • I LOVE the relationship between these 2 characters
Max
  • take the crate on after Why Me
Yishai
  • Great job w the Arabian Nights sequence 👍
  • As soon as the audience begins clapping for Prince Ali, you enter. Make sense?
Shopaholics
  • Better every time.
  • be aware of where the other actors are so you can make pretty stage Pictures. Some standing, some sitting some in small groups some alone. No bunches of actors. Limit the amount of time that we watch butts please.
  • Try to reduce the amount of crossing or walking around a lot.
Soti
  • LOVELY!
  • be careful in scene 6 that as Al exits upstage to climb the stairs you are not between him and the audience
  • after a whole new world when Al comes out and celebrates "Yes!" celebrate w him. high 5s, fist bumps, etc
  • the carpet flight right after Friend like me- it's going to have to be a smaller pin wheel. Make sense?
Raz & Guards
  • good job tonight crew!
  • Raz at some point you enter thru the house and i yelled "come in sooner!" I hope you remember where that was because i can't right now.😏
  • right before the Why Me reprise starts, you all look like you're crossing Left because the director or choreographer told you to. Bleh. Justify the move. imagine that you are all going over there to get away from Jafar so that you can whisper about the lamp. Juicy gossip!
  • At the end of Why Me reprise, Jafar sings "Why Me!" then laughs. Mackenzie and Avery laugh evilly with him. Mackenzie this will allow for a funny fast change from laughing to serious listening.
Garvey
  • so many fun details added tonight. Loved it. Understanding you better. keep up the good work.
  • Do we need to fix something about the monkey? You lost him?
  • we need to decide when you'll go get under the trap door
Anahit- Great job making some very strong decisions about Jasmine and how she feels. Also, you're doing well really trying to communicate w the other characters.  At the top of the show, let us love your strength and your softness. You're angry with your dad, but pick at least one time to find a reason to smile at him. You really do love him, you just need him to listen to you.  Find a time to enjoy a moment with your ladies in waiting. 4. Find a moment to reach out to "the people", show some compassion- give Antonia something, or a kiss on the cheek.

and not quite enough time.

One Jump!!

This Tuesday's rehearsal
This week we'll pick up where we left off, at One Jump Ahead.
Please review your blocking/choreography and lyrics for this number. Be sure to make note of exactly which lyrics belong to you. We'll then move on through the show in order.
Do you have your scene break down sheet filled out so that you'll be in the right place at the right time? Horray!!

Props
I'm trying to make sure I have a list of ALL of the props. If I've told you that you will be using a prop or props I'd like to check your list against mine. Look through your script and write on the last page any props or set pieces we've discussed you using like a basket, box, platter, candle, stool, rat, hat, etc, etc....

Notes from Thursday
Garvey- Congratulations on knowing your lyrics and choreography so well! You've been working really hard and bringing lots of energy to your performance. Now it's time to step it up a notch. As you sing Friend Like Me (as well as everything else 😏) , think about the lyrics, exactly what you are saying. Why are you saying these things? Who are you talking to? How do you feel about it?
Anahit- Great job making some very strong decisions about Jasmine and how she feels. Also, you're doing well really trying to communicate w the other characters. Remember that this is the first time that the audience sees you. Gets to know you. They know that you are strong and that you are completely opposed to the tradition that you be forced to marry but they need a chance to see the whole character right away. They should fall in love with you. 😍 So, 1. Let the audience see your excitement at being out of the castle, you almost never get to go out in the market place,  2. You're angry with your dad, but pick at least one time to find a reason to smile at him. You really do love him, you just need him to listen to you. 3. Find a time to enjoy a moment with your ladies in waiting. 4. Find a moment to reach out to "the people", show some compassion- give Antonia something, or a kiss on the cheek.

Here's a thought...
"Suit the action to the word, the word to the action, with this special observance, that you o'erstep not the modesty of nature."
-Hamlet, Act III, scene 2, line 19

Hamlet is talking to some actors and giving them acting advice.
*Hint - in this situation "modesty" means honesty, or truthfulness. Oh, and "o'erstep" is a contraction of overstep.

And, here is the form that I was talking about at rehearsal on Thursday
