I'm old. I've been doing theater since I was Antonia's age. One of the best moments I've ever experienced was near the end of the run thru tonight, when you were all so engaged in the wedding and eager to help keep the scene stay on track. 💗
Now, having said that, please be aware that you can't just go bellowing out everyone's lines all the time. Stepping in is actually something that happens rarely. (I think some people were trying to help out Stefano at one point, and he didn't need help.) Be sure the need is real, be sure you respond in a way that is true to your character.
Big Atta Boys for Garvey and Nora who stepped up and helped out appropriately and IN CHARACTER.
Notes
From Mrs. Acitelli-
Jafar and Iago if there is a pause before your music starts. Fill it.
Narrators - Mics are still on when you are exiting the stage. The house could hear you.
Genie ( maybe Robbie's guy too). Wait for music cue before you pop out of the floor.
From Mrs. Gilbert-
All
- Do NOT NOT NOT correct or direct other actors (this is different than helping, as your character, someone who is in real need)
- Do not tell the Hoover crew what to do
- Do NOT talk in the wings, ESPECIALLY when you are standing next to someone who is wearing a mic
- Never Had A Friend like Me- vocalize on entrance (all groups), vocalize on Antonia under the legs (It's a BIG musical, right??)
- Ensemble, good job being ready for entrances
Mic wearers
- Do NOT talk in the wings, ESPECIALLY when you are wearing a mic
- If you are wearing a mic and whisper, we will hear you
- Do NOT touch your mic (especially Stefano and Atom) you think you are helping but the opposite is true. Wanna know why? Ask the sound guys when they are fitting your mic.
- Rumor has it that some actors were "muting" their mic packs- BIG BIG NO NO! Not your job! Your job is to project nice and loudly when you have a line or a song and to keep you mouth zipped at all other times. Let Robbie do his job.
Narrators
- Don't enter too soon at the top of the show. We shouldn't see you till you sing. one or two at a time. look at your blocking notes
- great voices
- lots of nice stage pictures
- stay open!
- p. 22 Narrator Ani says "Jafar...is it true the local crime rate has plummeted?" That's when you pickpocket Jafar
- when you pick pocket Max make it REALLY obvious. long, slow pull
- liked your background business
- Da Du Ran Ran introduction, you can't run back across the stage in front of him while he's making his entrance. Either stay to stage right or wait til his entrance is made. Running doesn't make you invisible.😉
- don't RUN over to the agrabah set after Arabian Nights pt 7 you take a lot of focus when you do. we think this part is going to be about your character,
- "there's Razoul, Jafar's right hand man" make sure your names are correct and make sure we can understand the entire line. It's funny, we want to get the joke
- STAY OPEN!! if you are on stage left, pull your left shoulder and foot upstage, if you are on stage right, pull your right shoulder and foot upstage.
- Nice "fighting" and "kicking"!!
Jaz & Al
- "Gotta do is JUUUUUUUUUUUUMP" move a little more slowly down the stairs. don't turn and put on disguises til the word JUMP is totally over. then, stand up and put on disguises, they are talking about you, it's ok if we see you. Have fun!! you are having a great time escaping together. Smile!
- Don't go up and take off your disguises!! You are hiding!! Jaz, you take your disguise off when you say "By order of the princess"
- whole new world is going to be SPECTACULAR. Lovely singing. Look at each other. Look at the view going by.
- "good night sweet prince" finish the entire line before you turn to exit
- Fill before Why Me. We've talked about that
- I LOVE the relationship between these 2 characters
- take the crate on after Why Me
- Great job w the Arabian Nights sequence 👍
- As soon as the audience begins clapping for Prince Ali, you enter. Make sense?
Shopaholics
- Better every time.
- be aware of where the other actors are so you can make pretty stage Pictures. Some standing, some sitting some in small groups some alone. No bunches of actors. Limit the amount of time that we watch butts please.
- Try to reduce the amount of crossing or walking around a lot.
- LOVELY!
- be careful in scene 6 that as Al exits upstage to climb the stairs you are not between him and the audience
- after a whole new world when Al comes out and celebrates "Yes!" celebrate w him. high 5s, fist bumps, etc
- the carpet flight right after Friend like me- it's going to have to be a smaller pin wheel. Make sense?
- good job tonight crew!
- Raz at some point you enter thru the house and i yelled "come in sooner!" I hope you remember where that was because i can't right now.😏
- right before the Why Me reprise starts, you all look like you're crossing Left because the director or choreographer told you to. Bleh. Justify the move. imagine that you are all going over there to get away from Jafar so that you can whisper about the lamp. Juicy gossip!
- At the end of Why Me reprise, Jafar sings "Why Me!" then laughs. Mackenzie and Avery laugh evilly with him. Mackenzie this will allow for a funny fast change from laughing to serious listening.
- so many fun details added tonight. Loved it. Understanding you better. keep up the good work.
- Do we need to fix something about the monkey? You lost him?
- we need to decide when you'll go get under the trap door
To achieve great things, two things are needed; a plan,
and not quite enough time.
and not quite enough time.
