2. MONOLOGUE CHOICES
~A monologue is a speech said by a single actor to themselves, the audience, or to another character.
Many auditions require actors to prepare monologues as a way of determining the actor's emotional and vocal range.
Peter and the Starcatcher
TEACHER (who was a fish): Well, well. . . nice of you to drop in.
I’m Teacher, I know your name is Peter. When you rode the trunk to this island,
seawater seeped inside. Then the starstuff in the trunk enchanted the water where
I was swimmin’. The starstuff’ll change you, too. It makes you what you want to be.
Sky’s the limit. You could even fly yourself home maybe,
just like you dreamed, Peter Pan.

Sky’s the limit. You could even fly yourself home maybe,

MOLLY: You stop that right now. I won’t answer any such question. You’re leaning
toward the sentimental and that’s all well and good for a boy, but the fact is we girls
can’t afford to be sentimental. We must instead be strong. And when I marry,
I shall make it very clear to this person –
that sentimentality is not on the calendar. He will have to lump it or leave it.

Annie
MISS HANNIGAN: Get up! All of you. Now, for this one’s shenanigans,
you’ll all get down on your knobby little knees and clean this dump until
it shines like the top of the Chrysler Building. Get to work!! Why any kid

would want to be an orphan, I’ll never know.
Newsies
Ambitious young reporter and daughter of Pulitzer, KATHERINE PLUMBER, tries to
convince Jack how to win the war on her father
KATHERINE: Really Jack? Really? Only you can have a good idea?
Being boss doesn’t mean you have all the answers, just the brains to recognize
the right one when you hear it. The strike was your idea. The rally was Davey’s.
And now my plan will take us to the finish line. Deal with it.

the right one when you hear it. The strike was your idea. The rally was Davey’s.
And now my plan will take us to the finish line. Deal with it.
Newsie leader, JACK KELLY, pleads with the scabs who are threatening to work during the
newsie strike
JACK : Listen fellas...I know somebody put yis up to this. Probably paid ya some extra money too. Well, it ain’t right. All across this city there are boys and girls who ought to be playin’ or going to school. Instead they’re slavin’ to support themselves and their folks. Fellas...for the sake of all the kids in every sweatshop and factory in this town, I beg you...throw down your papers and join the strike.
Shrek
FAIRYTALE CHARACTER 2 (kid): Now wait a minute! Maybe that ogre wasn’t
the answer but something better will come along, and we have to wait for it,
because that’s what fairytale characters do. We wait for miracles. We wish upon stars. Down with Farquaad! Power to piggies and the big bad wolf, and the three bears
and the sugar plum fairy!

Anne Of Green Gables
ANNE: Dreams don’t often come true, Mr. Cuthbert. Just now, I feel
pretty nearly perfectly happy. I can’t feel perfectly happy because what color would you call this? Red. That’s why I can’t ever be
perfectly happy. I can imagine I have a beautiful rose/leaf completion and lovely,
starry, violet eyes. But I cannot imagine my red hair away. It will be my life-long sorrow.

The Secret Garden
MARY: Could you keep a secret if I told you one? It’s a great secret.
I don’t know what I should do if anyone found out. I believe I should die!
I’ve stolen a garden. It isn’t mine. It isn’t anybody’s. Nobody wants it,
nobody cares for it. They’re letting it die, all shut up by itself. It’s mine now.

3. SONG CHOICES
Choose one of the songs to practice and perform for your audition.
You will perform only the 16 bars that you practiced. This is very common for auditions.
~Here is a definition for 16 "bars"
Bar - (definition) A measure.

I'm so proud of all of you!!! 💚
I've been doin a happy crock dance all weekend and hope you have too.
Now, we're not going to get over confident or lazy, we're going to continue to strive and reach and grow. So, here are a couple thoughts-
Darlings: “Tender Shepard's” is beautiful.
Peter p 11: Shadow section is great, thank you. Put soap down after you sit so that it doesn’t bounce. 😆
Peter “I’m Flying”: Great job flying around.
Wendy + Michael + Peter “I’m Flying”: Much better when you fly, keep it up!
Lost Boys p 24: The sound cue has been fixed. It will be fine next time. Thanks for rolling with it.
Pirates p 24: Great job being ready.
Peter “I won’t grow up”: Pick some lines to be the mean teacher.
Peter p 58: “Ahoy there you lubbers!” Your voice has to change here. Sound like Hook
Lost Boys p 70: Are you staying open here? I haven’t been able to see you in a while.
Peter: Your scene with Tink is beautiful.
Pirates + Lost Boys p 87: The criss-cross has to happen MUCH more quickly. Vocalize! Pirates, you can tease them.
Pirates + Lost Boys p 90: Don’t yell out “There’s something behind you!”. It destroys the joke.
Hook: Open out for your last line.
Cast: After bows:
- Friday- exit and get changed.
- Saturday- we will allow you to get pictures with your family, ONLY IN THE HOUSE, not on the stage, not in the hall

Notes from the 5/2 run thru
✨Our techies are our pixie dust ✨
Notes from the 5/2 run thru
☆ Everyone: Be careful not to mouth the other actors’ lines!
Prologue:
Peter: Push the windows open all the way. Don’t stick your fingers through the "glass"
Lost Boys: On your entrance, be inviting to the audience. Check your stage positions (they were ugly).
Darling Family: Great Entrance.
Natalie & Nicole: Sit up one step higher.
Scene One:
Mama: Don’t cross in so far.
John: Bow to Mama on her entrance.
Nana: Start your cross to papa for the bath exit sooner.
Nana: Enter sooner on your second entrance.
Papa: Look at your “Good Nana” lines. You're skipping some.
Wendy: Volume, volume, volume
Mama: You need to turn the night-lights on.
Mama: When you’re standing by Wendy, you need to put your hand on her shoulder, her hair, touch her like you’re fond of her.
Wendy: Show shock on waking up to see Peter sitting there.
Wendy: You need to get your sewing kit from the chair.
Peter: Look at the kiss. Be curious about it.
Wendy & Peter: Stay open when you’re looking at the dresser.
Wendy & Peter: Look each other in the eyes when you’re talking
*Wendy + Peter: This is a change. On page 13, on Peter’s line, “I don’t know…” Peter should cross up to the window. Wendy, follow him on your cross.
Wendy or John: The lights have to be turned out before Liza comes in.
Wendy: Move the chair.
Micheal, John & Wendy: “Lovely thoughts...” Fix your stage positions, they were ugly.
Neverland:
Pirates: Start moving into the theater earlier on the Pirate March.
Lost Boys: Do not scream like girls when the Pirates are coming.
Hook: We can’t understand your first line. Slow down, think about what you’re saying.
Hook & Smee: Eye contact during conversations.
Pirates: During search, some will exit to get their prop instruments. Some can sit and fall asleep, whittle, something like that.
Pirates: Let's fix the exit after the croc enters.
Ceci & Eeva: Great job choosing to use a different exit.
Brave Girls p 33: Look at the script. By not hitting your cues, you’re leaving the Lost Boys stranded.
- “I do wish Peter were here”
- Rustle rustle rustle
- “What’s that?”
- (A moment of silence)
- “It’s so quiet.”
- “Ugh!”
- “Brave Girls!”
Small Brave Girl: React after they shush you. Do you think it’s funny? Are you embarrassed?
Lost Boys: Don’t go upstage to get bows and arrows. Wait ‘till they’re brought to you.
Wendy: On the hand move, lift your hand waaaay up, and swish it around like everyone’s annoying you and you just want to shush them.
Jayden & Sebastian: Great job when you were standing by the proscenium.
Curlies: Do the dance move of scooting backward with the Twins.
Lost Boys: Create the decorations. Act as if you’re tying together vines, flowers, etc.
Lanora & Seri Jane: Don’t cross downstage of Peter.
Lost Boys: Look at the lines for this scene.
Peter: Change your voice for Hook. Try to sound like him.
Tiger Lilly: On “Follow me!”, Make a big movement. This will help the audience understand what's going on.When you are on a mic the sound of your voice won't draw the audience's attention to you. The voice could be coming from any actor, it has no direction.
Burrow:
Twins: One on each side of Dad with slippers.
Lost Boys: During the song, not everyone can put their head down on their knees.
Wendy: Stand on “Yes, I suppose…”.
Lost Boys: Every time you enter to the Burrow, remember the audience. Remember that there are people sitting in the chairs against the walls to house left. OPEN UP. Actors who are the most downstage should choose a kneeling position.
Hook: When talking to Smee (with Wendy tied up), hold the poison bottle out to your right. Don’t hold it out in front of Wendy's face.

Rehearsal Notes April 16-29
1. Think on this →
The audience is the most revered member of the theater.
Without an audience there is no theater.
Every technique learned by the actor, every curtain, every flat on the stage, every careful analysis by the director, every coordinated scene, is for the enjoyment of the audience.
They are our guests, our evaluators, and the last spoke in the wheel which can then begin to roll. They make the performance meaningful.
~Viola Spolin
Q: What is our goal? A: To tell a story to the audience.
The audience must be able to
see you
hear you
understand you
believe you
feel you
2. Also, think on this ⇉
3. Notes from the last couple of weeks →
*No one, except Elijah, is loud enough*
Elijah- Take care of your voice, watch that video about breath support
John + Micheal p 5- When mama is crossing with the hat, verbalize a little bit.
Mama p 7- After papa exits, turn on night lights.
Lost Boys p 24- “Flying! Flying! Flying” held the excitement of “Mud. Mud. Mud.”
Smee p 28- Make your cross down center because of the way the captain gestures with his hook.
You want to get away from the hook.
Hook p 29- “Call back the band” - WAIT FOR SMEE’S WHISTLE - “They say that peter pan…”
Pirates p 27- 75% too much movement on searching for lost boys. Last warning.
Lost Boys p 32- Entrance much better, thanks.
MAYA + Smee + Stage Right Pirates+ Lost Boys-
Use a piece of rope to take the lost boys across as if they’re all tied to it.
Lost Boys + Wendy p 36- Wendy is going to need to be dragged in from the most downstage wing
(closest to the audience) So, Lost Boys who are at the edge of the actual stage
(Charlot and Leona?) are going to need to move upstage in their kneeling positions.
We will have to go back and fix this.
Lost Boys p 37- When Wendy is dragged on, you think she’s a giant bird.
Look at her in excitement and awe. This doesn’t happen every day.
Lost Boys p 37- React when Peter tells you that It’s not a bird, it’s a lady.
Lost Boys + Peter + Micheal + John p 38- “I didn’t get to see Wendy” How did it go?
Remember for the line “and be our mother…” lean toward center stage first, lean toward offstage second.
Hook p 44- Slow down your line “The game is up…”
Pirates p 57- Vocalize on entrance.
Tiger Lilly p 57- Show your defiance physically. You are better than they are. You are very proud.
Pirates p 58- Great job with confusion and looking for Hook.
Tiger Lilly p 58- When you cross away from the Pirates, you know that Peter is playing a trick on them.
When you depart, make some type of physical action or gesture to the Pirates on your exit.
(let’s talk about it) When you get to the Lost Boys, go all the way stage right
before talking to them to avoid having your back to the audience.
Hook p 59- In the script it says “Shreeks”, but don’t hurt your throat.
All p 70- After Tiger Lilly’s line “We’ll keep guard and look for pirates”
there will be a scene change with a new sound cue. (Sound cue 27.5)
Wendy p 70- Enter as lights go up.
MAYA + Twins + Nibs p 70- There is fabric to be slippers and tree bark for the newspaper.
Wendy + Peter + Twin 1 p 71- We need to fix the stool thing.
Wendy p 75- On your line “Peter, how I wish I could take you and squeeze you”,
you need to reach out to him and try to hug him so that he can pull away from you.
Peter p 77- You’ve got this scene. Relax and trust yourself. It has to be honest.
Hook p 79- Go over your speech. Remind yourself of exactly what you say and where the mood changes.
Peter- in the duel, Hook must catch you and "push" you down with his Hook. You have to sell this.
Peter- in the duel, Hook must catch you and "push" you down with his Hook. You have to sell this.
